Rice terraces, surfing, delicious food and endless scooter rides. One month in Bali has come and gone so quickly it almost feels like a dream. We started our visit on the east coast of the island in the bustling and hot Seminyak. After a few days of surf lessons we headed north to Ubud, a town surrounded by greenery as far as the eye can see. The weather was almost as hot up there but the short bursts of torrential rain helped us to cool down.
Once we’d soaked up enough of the incredible views we headed back down south to Uluwatu, an area of Bali famous for its surf and its temple and both of them certainly didn’t disappoint. Sadly our surfing abilities aren’t quite yet good enough to ride the waves at Padang Padang but even so the atmosphere and laid back vibe of the town were enough to make us feel like the clocks had stopped.
Our next stop was a hot and very cramped ferry ride away to the island of Nusa Penida. When we arrived in Bali, several people told us to visit this island for its amazing cliffs, clear waters and to experience what Bali might have been like 30 years ago. We got off the ferry, borrowed a scooter from a local guy at the harbour and rode off into the distance. A couple of days later we took the same hot and very cramped ferry back to Bali and spent a few nights in Canggu which were spent mostly tanning, eating and planning the coming months.
Its easy to see why so many people come to Bali, and why so many of them don’t ever want to leave. We’re not quite sure how or why, but the clocks seem to tick a little slower and the sun shines a little brighter. Here are some of our favourite moments…
