Flying with a bankrupt airline won't get you very far...

Written by Frida and Leo

So we’re off! We wouldn’t go so far as to say that today an absolute disaster but it certainly came close. We turned up to the worst airport in England full of hopes and dreams and excited by the consolation of when you arrive at Luton Airport, you swiftly depart Luton Airport. Sadly leaving Luton wasn’t by airplane but instead back in Frida’s mum’s car (shoutout to @FunKrissy). Like everyone imagines in their worst nightmares, our flight wasn’t on the departure board. It wasn’t anywhere. Neither was the airline we had chosen to fly with for that matter…

It turns out that we had made the terrible decision to fly with Monarch Airlines, who apparently went bankrupt 3 months before our flight and nobody had thought to let us know. (don’t book your flights through kiwi.com, or with a bankrupt airline for that matter)

We booked last minute flights to Rome so that we could catch our connecting flight the next morning and called Frida’s mum so she could do a 180 and take us to Heathrow! After many rude words said about certain customer service operators later, we arrived at Heathrow, 4 hours early for our next flight.

And finally, after checking in, we were finally sitting in the lounge, sipping (probably actually gulping) white wine and questioning whether we had made a terrible mistake thinking we can handle this..

The best part of the day was probably when our Rome flight started coming up as delayed on the departure board and we didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, and then Leo went and dropped chocolate mousse on the laptop keyboard. It was so typical that it was just downright hilarious, the hysterical kind.
